"Another great year!"
Fun Day 2018 - The Best Ever!
Frome Carnival Committee’s annual Fun Day took place in Victoria Park on Saturday 2nd June and has been declared “the best one yet” in feedback received via Facebook.
The annual event took place this year in baking sunshine, and featured: fun fair rides, entertainment, stalls, games, a barbecue and much more. Fun Day Organiser, Emily Denne, said “The Fun Day is the Committee’s single biggest fundraiser – raising money to help pay for the Carnival in September. We are incredibly pleased to have had such a wonderful turn out and such support from the wider Frome Community! We are delighted to have an initial estimate that the Fun Day brought in over £2000 of profit – which is more than any previous year!”
The family friendly dog show, which takes place within the Fun Day, was once again hugely popular. The organisers were delighted to welcome many new entrants, alongside a few regulars to the show. Classes included ‘waggiest tail’ and ‘best junior handler’. The overall winner for the dog show, winning the ‘Best in Show’ trophy was Alan Berry, together with his dog Logan. The dog show Judge, Denise, was hugely impressed with how Alan had helped to change Logan’s life – from a shy rescue to the confident dog he is today.
This year’s Fun Day also included the selection event for the Carnival Ambassadors. The role of Ambassador was brought in last year, replacing Carnival Royalty. Facing some fierce competition, a total of five Ambassadors (three juniors and two seniors) were selected by a panel of three independent judges, who asked each candidate questions to assess their suitability for the role, which includes helping with fundraising and promoting the Carnival at events.
The three Junior Ambassadors are:
- Megan Wells aged 8,
- Nicole Goodall aged 10
- and Emily Smith, also aged 10.
The Senior Ambassadors are:
- Emma Louise Smith
- and Jessica Cook.
Jessica is a current 2017 Ambassador and was incredibly pleased to be chosen to continue the role into 2018!
June Barnes, Carnival Committee Chairperson stated that every candidate had performed very well and the judges found it difficult to choose the final five. The committee warmly welcome all disappointed entrants to try again next year!
The Carnival babies were also selected during the Fun Day. Two babies, one aged 0 to 9 months and one aged 10 to 18 months were chosen.
- They are: Aliyah Drake (6 months)
- and Kizzee Wheeler (10 months)
Both will have a starring role in the afternoon Carnival procession in September
Talking about the Fun Day event as a whole, Emily Denne went on to state “we would like to take this opportunity to thank the very many people who have made this event such a success. From our huge team of volunteers, to our entertainers (Infinity Dance, Marcus Smith, DJ Pete, Eric Lindley, Frome Band and Rock Choir), to the businesses who supported us and our tremendous stall holders, local charities and organisations. Quite simply, the day would not have happened without all of you. Your support helps ensure the continued survival and success of Frome Carnival”.
