The first ever Carnival Ambassadors were chosen at a special selection event on the 1st September, which took place at the Town Hall. The role of Carnival Ambassadors replaced previous years’ Carnival royalty. Ambassadors are expected to help promote the charitable aspect of the carnival and take part in fundraising events.

There are a total of five ambassadors, with the competition being open to males and females, aged eight plus, living in the Frome area.

The carnival committee have hailed the change as a huge success, reporting that they had more entries for the five roles than they had in the previous year’s royalty competition. The selection was chosen by three impartial judges, including Frome’s Mayor, who asked each entrant a number of questions in order to determine their ability to fulfil the ambassador role.

The three junior ambassadors are confirmed as Toby Denne (aged 8), Destany Louisa Smith (aged 11) and Jasmine Wells (aged 12). The two senior ambassadors are Jessica Cook (aged 13) and Maya Edwards (aged 15). All five Ambassadors will attend a range of events throughout the year, as well as playing a starring role on the Carnival float.

The judges informed us that selection was very difficult, with all entrants demonstrating enthusiasm and excitement about the new role. The carnival committee have urged those who were not successful this year, to please try again next year.
